Lawrence Karnow in Line for Fulltime KRON Weather Gig But Dollars Might be Issue

Image result for Lawrence Karnow IF Lawrence Karnow wants the fulltime KRON weather gig on the weeknight --it's his to have--only Karnow may balk at the $130K a-year salary KRON is offering for the job, soon to be vacated by Philly-bound, Brittney Shipp.

$130K is a nice salary but in San Francisco doesn't net you a whole lot of money.

On the other hand, KRON might go to their usual young female-looking-to-work-in-SF and willing to take a meager salary.

Stay tuned.

I will.

  1. I like Karnow, and it would be nice to see him back on the air in the Bay Area.

    1. He's not bad. I don't understand why Dave Spahr doesn't more consideration as well? He's very good, albeit not an ethnic eye candy woman.

  2. Larry does a solid job on the air. It's too bad he's with a bunch of shleps at KRON4. You could take the good people there (you know who they are -- and aren't) and have the core of a good news department.

  3. $130k is nothing to balk at,I think. I hope he take the deal. He's does a nice job with weather, and Lord knows kron needs all the help they can get.

  4. That would qualify you for a decent apartment in Fremont. He could BART to work or ride share with Will Tran who also lives in Fremont.
Housing in the bay area is nothing like I grew up with. Nobody is going home to home like they did many moons ago. Last that was possible- the 1980's.

  5. Lawrence Karnow was great when he was with KPIX. I was bummed out when they brought in that outside interloper, whatshisname, [oh yeah, paul deanno] who is the current Chief Meteorologist at KPIX, and let Lawrence Karnow go. But, with todays media salaries coming down, $130,000 a year to do what a meteorologist does at a tv station, to me, seems like a great gig and salary! The good thing is that he won't be at the same station as his wife, Sharon Chin, as it used to be. It is no good having all your eggs in one basket!

    1. Speaking of "PIX" are they not the cheapest major market station with the number of Meteorologists on staff?? They have Paul Deanno, Roberta Gonzalez and Brian Hackney who also doubles as a weekend Anchor.. That's it.. The rest of the weather broadcasters are reporters.. Three Meteorologists.. ABC with four and KTVU with four..

  7. His value just took a plunge...
In fact the whole SF/Oak/SJ market just took a giant hit...
Nielsen now ranks the area as DMA#8...no longer #6.

The importance of the BA just sunk.

  8. Oh God, another science-denier for meteorologist. Great. Why not hire someone who still thinks the earth is flat?

    1. Yes, you made this point yesterday. Thank you for chiming in between chants of "Obama" and "Yes we can".

  9. Lawrence Karnow cannot and will not save KRON. If you think you or anyone will turn on the station just to watch him you are fooling yourself. Sure, he should take the gig if he has the time and energy to do so. Weather forecasts are everywhere...don't need a TV person to provide it. One of the few things local TV is good at instant live coverage of breaking news with amazing visuals. Other than that, it is all old news by the time the newscast rolls around. You can get all you need to know by following them socially. KRON overall is in okay shape. Ratings are horrendous but it likely operates on a shoe-string staff and obviously does not pay well so the little money is generates through commercials pays the bills. Soon, as the audience continues to drop so will the advertising dollars. Other stations will be hit but KRON is already scraping by.

      No one said he would.

    2. Without knowing it, you have described the main reason newspapers are dying, old news.

Let me reword one of your sentences. "Other than that, it is all old news by the time you read your daily newspaper in the morning."

  10. Blame Roberta Gonzales for letting him go, Roberta make a comeback after filling in as a fill in and Lawrence got let go.

  11. I like Larry. Straight forward & no-nonsense or witty banter like the others. Too bad his hair has to be dyed a ridiculous color like the Dan Ashley & Eric Thomas crew.

  12. Small town news in a big city. Does local TV news even qualify as an industry segment? Annual revenue compared to what?

  13. Diane Tuazon last I looked is now in real estate. So,KRON is either a start or an end for a career.

    1. Except for Stanley Roberts. Imagine if he went to KGO? He and Finny would make KGO a powerhouse dynasty.

  14. This reminds me...Radnich had made the threat to sue 415 because it posted he was the cause of kron weatherwoman to leave. Yet,Radnich never did explain why the last 2 regular weatherwoman in Tuazon and Shipp came in wanting no part of Radnich's act. Even the fill in's like Rebecca Strom or the other one who's name I forgot,Filipino too like Tuazon, stayed clear of him.
Will that continue? I think the Heenan tape is being studied by those who are thinking of KRON in their future.

    1. Gary Radnich has absolutely nothing to do with the weather women at KRON coming, going or staying. NOTHING! Tuzaon left for personal reasons and Shipp is doing the same. This false assumption on your part is getting tiresome.

  15. Can we please bring back Erica Kato and / or Michelle Apon? Both were good to wake up to and going to sleep with, well. ....

  16. I love all this banter. Perhaps one day y'all in California will need a REAL meteorologist (sorry Patrick) like my friend Tom Skilling in Chicago. You know, where they have REAL WEATHER!!
